BOOK SCULPTURE

Ghost Stories is a book sculpture, made with an old book. It tells the story of three boys camping overnight in the woods and telling each other scary stories around their campfire. Trees are cut from book pages. Their tent is set back in the left corner, with toothpicks for tent stakes. Tiny flickering lights behind the campfire logs (made from soda straws) make the scene come to life. The whole sculpture is inside an 11” high x 11-1/2” wide X 14-1/2” deep hand-crafted wood box made by my husband, with a large window on the front and doors on the rear to provide access to the lights.

COMPUTER KEYBOARD SCULPTURES

Querty & Technochick II. These sculptures are made with a paper-mâché technique, using plaster cloth. The computer keys are attached using caulking. In the case of the rooster, the leg and tail feathers are made from the electrical circuit sheets that are inside keyboards. The feet are dragonfly wings from a string of non-working solar lights.

PAPER SCULPTURES

SIX- FOOT HIGH CHRISTMAS TREE
This paper sculpture was created for an exhibition of Christmas trees. It was constructed of poster board in two sections to make the tree shape, with the top section slipping part way over the bottom. The outside was covered with green wrapping paper. On the inside, plaster cloth was used to provide strength. Lime-green gift wrap covered the poster board circles which were slipped over the tree top and fell to the level they were sized to fit. These served as supports for the red and green paper garland, and the paper ornaments were hung from these supports. The top tree ornament was made from red wrapping paper. The base was a cardboard box covered with red wrapping paper and was sized to hold all of the circles, garland, and ornaments for transportation and storage.

ROSE
This paper sculpture was constructed from individual paper petals, adding layer upon layer, coating the base of each petal with a clear medium which acted as a bonding agent. The very realistic thorns were made from thicker paper, painted with the bonding agent to harden them, and joined to the stem.
